1. How do you hide your video preferences?

On the computer…


  • Go to your YouTube homepage. Click on the location of your profile photo and go to Settings>Privacy.
  • On the screen that opens, tick the boxes you want to be hidden and press ‘Save’.

On your mobile…


  • In your YouTube app, press your profile photo in the upper right corner.
  • Select ‘Your Channel’.

2. How do you turn off personalized ads?

  • After following the Settings>Privacy path, click on ‘Google Ad Settings’


  • When you click on this option, a page will appear in front of you. You can turn off or re-enable ad personalization from this page.

On your mobile…


  • In your YouTube app, go to the ‘Library’ tab and hit ‘History’. Press the three dots at the top right of the screen and select ‘History controls’.


  • Select ‘Manage all events’ and press the three dots in ‘Search’.


  • Select ‘Other Google events’ from the dropdown options


  • On the page that opens, scroll down until you find ‘Google Ads Settings’. When you find it, say ‘Manage Ad Settings’. You can turn off ad personalization from this page.

3. Delete your search and watch history:

When you log into YouTube with your Google account, YouTube tracks the videos you watch and your searches. You can also delete this data.

On the computer…


  • Go to your YouTube homepage and click ‘History’ in the left menu.
  • You will find many options on this page. While you have the opportunity to delete the videos you want one by one, you can delete or pause our entire viewing or search history. After you pause your search or watch history, the videos or searches you watch are not saved.

On Your Cell Phone…


  • Press the ‘Library’ icon in the bottom right of the YouTube app, then press the ‘History’ option.
  • If you want to delete videos one by one, you can delete them after pressing the three dots next to the videos. As an alternative to this, when you swipe right on the video you want to delete, you will see the ‘Remove’ option. After clicking ‘Remove’, your video will be deleted.


  • Press the three dots at the top right of the page that opens to pause your search and watch history as you would on a computer. From here, click on ‘History checks’.


  • Through this page, you can pause your search and watch history as well as delete them completely.
