Chernobyl, New King of Mediums, Climbs to the Top on IMDb

The Chernobyl disaster in 1986 went down in history as one of the world’s worst nuclear disasters. Chernobyl, the new production of Sky Atlantic, brings the disaster to the screen.

The five-episode series ranked 9.6 out of 10 from nearly 26,000 IMDb users, placing it at the top of all time.


The cult TV series Breaking Bad ranks second with a score of 9.5 on IMDb. Game of Thrones, which received votes from more than 1.5 million users, has a score of 9.4. In the first episode of Chernobyl, 2 million people watched the program in total. The cast of the series also includes names such as Emily Watson, Jessie Buckley, Stellan Skarsgard and Jared Harris.

In the series, it is told before and after the disaster that took place in the nuclear reactor located in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) at that time, which was on the border of Ukraine today.

28 people died in the disaster. One of these people died at the time of the explosion and the other died in the facility due to the lethal dose of radiation. Settlements around the facility were evacuated due to pollution.


The series examines the cultural influences that caused the catastrophe, with physicist and research commission chairman Valery Legasov in the lead role. Emily Watson plays a fictional scientist named Ulana Khomyuk. This character actually represents the scientists who voiced their reactions during the period.

Three episodes of the series have been released so far.
