China Central Television (CCTV) displayed the prototype of the maglev train, which will serve in the city of Qingdao, Shandong province, on the assembly line and broadcast these images. The company at the head of the project, China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC), Qingdao Sifang Co. Deputy Chief Engineer Ding Sansan stated that they can test important technological components of the high-speed maglev train system thanks to the prototype.
Thanks to the maglev technology, the train moves on the magnetic field. The magnetic force prevents the train from coming into contact with the rails, and the train, which does not encounter friction force, can move much faster. The world’s first commercial maglev train entered service in Japan in 2005. This train, reaching a speed of 603 kilometers per hour, set a record that is extremely difficult to break.
Ding Sansan of CRRC Qingdao Sifang Co, said, “The prototype was able to perform static takeoff and is in good condition.” He stated that everything is fine in the prototype for now. CRRC Qingdao Sifang Co. continues the construction of experimental production centers for high-speed maglev trains. According to Ding Sansan, these centers are expected to come into service in the second half of the year.
Ding Sansan states that R&D studies continue as usual. Stating that the single-car prototype is expected to leave the production line in 2020 and participate in the first test drive of 5 kilometers, Sansan said that in 2021, the test process will be completed by conducting extensive tests of the maglev train. It is said that the maglev train, which will travel at an average speed of 600 km / h, will be the intermediate segment of the high-speed train with a speed of 350-400 km / h and the aircraft with a speed of 800 km / h.
