‘Combo Strike’ Feature Boosts Ryzen 7 5800X3D’s Performance

MSI has released a new BIOS update to unleash the full power of the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, which does not offer overclocking support. Beta BIOS updates are available for select X570S, X570 and B550 motherboards. The utility software known as Combo Strike comes integrated into the BIOS.

Unfortunately, MSI did not share the details of the feature. In the BIOS description, we see an improvement in the form of “Improved CPU performance for Ryzen 7 5800X3D”. There will be four separate options for this feature: Disabled, 1, 2, and 3. The third option will probably push the chip to peak performance.

The new beta BIOSes are currently available for models such as X570S Unify, X570S Ace, X570 Godlike, B550 Unify X, B550 Unify, B550 Gaming Edge WiFi, B550I Gaming Edge MAX WiFi and B550M Mortar. After the update, you can access the Combo Strike option in the “Overclock/Advanced CPU Configuration” section of the BIOS. Again, these are beta BIOS updates and additional bugs may occur.

The new beta BIOS also comes with the “CPU Offset Voltage” option to apply low voltage to the Ryzen 7 5800X3D. Also as a warning, voltage levels that are too low can damage the processor and affect system stability. Therefore, it is important to take the steps carefully.

Alongside MSI, ASUS also offers a variety of built-in custom overclocking functions that work on all Ryzen 5000 processors, including the Ryzen 7 5800X3D.
