The finals of FIRST LEGO League Open International, in which 40 thousand teams and 320 thousand participants from all over the world took part, started in the USA, Australia, Lebanon, Uruguay and Turkey. Izmir in Turkey hosts the finals of the competition, where the participants will struggle with the problems in space through the robots they have developed.
At the opening of the event, Turkish astrophysicist Dr. Umut Yıldız made a video call and stated that there are many problems in space and it is pleasing that children find solutions in this area. Yıldız considered space as an expensive and fun hobby.
Chairman of the Science Heroes Association, Prof. Dr. Sıddıka Semahat Demir, on the other hand, expressed that they were happy to host the organization and said that the organization was extremely productive for the participants in terms of friendship as well as scientific studies.
The participants of the competition tried to find solutions to space problems in the competition themed ‘Into Orbit: Space Adventure’. While 82 teams from 40 countries will participate in the event, which will end on May 25, parties, excursions and various activities will be held to promote İzmir throughout the event.
