Sarcophagus Found During YHT Works

A sarcophagus was found during the excavations carried out within the scope of the High Speed ​​​​Train (YHT) project, which will connect Ankara and Izmir. The sarcophagus was discovered during the studies carried out in the Hacılı neighborhood of the Salihli district of Manisa.


The workers who found the grave informed the gendarmerie. Gendarmerie teams, who came to the place where the sarcophagus was located, stopped the excavation work. The Manisa Museum Directorate, which came to the study area, examined the sarcophagus.

As a result of the examination made by the museum directorate, the sarcophagus, which is estimated to belong to the Roman period, will be moved to the museum after the archaeological studies to be carried out in the region.
