The passwords of the accounts we create on the Internet are of great importance for users. None of us would want an account we created on the internet stolen. However, according to research, users do not care that much about the security of the accounts they create on the internet.
Research conducted by the UK’s National Cyber Security Center (NCSC) has brought to light very striking results. As a result of the researches, it was determined that the most preferred password is “123456”. The number of accounts using this password is 23.2 million. This password is created by successive letters and numbers on the keyboard such as “123456789”, “password” and “qwerty”.
There is a website where you can check your passwords. You can query your password that you use or want to use from this site. In the query made on the site, it shows how many times this password is revealed in cases of account theft.
According to the security expert Troy Hunt, the owner of the relevant site, users have to be aware of this. Hunt also gives recommendations for users in his statement. Stating that known passwords should not be used, Hunt states that users can benefit from password manager applications. His recommendation in this regard is the 1Password application. You can create your own unique passwords with this and similar applications. Apart from this, Hunt states that two-factor authentication is important, adding that this will create an extra layer of security and is very important for users to keep their accounts safe.
