US Files 17 New Charges Against Julian Assange

Julian Assange had published thousands of pages of confidential correspondence and documents on his site called Wikileaks, creating a great sensation. Assange, who has had problems with some states, especially the USA, since that day, took refuge in the Ecuadorian Embassy for a long time.

The 47-year-old Australian is in detention for failing to meet bail conditions. The US, on the other hand, wants to make sure that Assange never gets out of jail again. Assange, who was accused last month of plotting to hack into the Department of Defense network with former intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning, is also accused of obtaining and publishing the names of classified sources. Other accusations include endangering secret resources in the Middle East and China.

Assange sought refuge in the Ecuadorian Embassy in Sweden in 2012 after allegations of harassment against him. Assange has since denied the charges.

Wikileaks, on the other hand, tweeted about the issue, describing the accusations as insanity.

Chelsea Manning, who provided Assange with the documents, was convicted in 2013 and sentenced to 35 years in prison. Manning, whose sentence was reduced by former US President Obama, was released but was arrested again on the grounds that he refused to testify to the jury investigating Wikileaks.

While Wikileaks was the biggest leak in US history, Sweden reopened the harassment case. The Scandinavian country wants Assange to be extradited to them.
