Not so much 15 years ago, we preferred different ways to communicate with each other. People had to come together for us to talk lengthy matters. Smartphones didn’t exist yet when Facebook opened up to the world, succeeding more than a few previous attempts.
In a short time, social media channels became external applications on our phones. You don’t even need to be an expert anymore to make inferences about how they’ve changed our lives. Facebook, on the other hand, has once again shown people what is not going well with the latest scandals it has experienced. Although he is still a giant, the wounds of his name and reputation were also reflected in our survey results.
“Which is your favorite social media platform?” The answers to the question are as follows:
- Instagram: 37%
- YouTube: 31%
- Twitter: 13%
- Facebook: 7%
- Other platforms: 6% (980710)
- Reddit : 4%
- Snapchat: 1%
- LinkedIn: 1% (980710)
Come now, Let’s present our analysis on the voting rates.
Facebook main app and Twitter’s interesting competition:
Facebook’s strongest competitor is a The break was just Twitter. It seems that after scandals like Cambridge Analytica, trust in Facebook’s classic main application has waned. The number of users of Twitter in Turkey is around 9 million, while the number of users of Facebook is around 51 million. Let’s see, in the survey results, Twitter is getting ahead of Facebook by getting almost twice as many votes.
Also an interesting anecdote: Instagram has 33 million users in Turkey. We know that most users have both Facebook and Instagram accounts. As a matter of fact, the total number of unique users is 84 million. The current population of Turkey is 79.8 million. We wanted to think about it.
There are 51 million Facebook and 33 million Instagram users in Turkey. The total number of unique users is 84 million. The current population of Turkey is 79.8 million.
Next generation Facebook: Instagram
acquired Instagram for $1 billion in 2012 Facebook has conquered it like a trojan horse over the years. The application has become the fastest member and value gaining platform of all time. Starting off as a photography application, Instagram has brought many features such as non-chronological homepage flow, messaging, short-term sharing model Stories.
The Stories feature in particular was a hit. This update made in 2016 was inspired by Snapchat, the star of the period. After 1 year, the number of people sharing Stories from Instagram exceeded Snapchat users. People are starting to leave Snapchat now. As a result, Snapchat, the inventor of Stories-type instant posts, received only 1% of votes in this poll.
A significant portion of those who leave the Facebook main application are still using Instagram, the alternative platform of the same company, without even realizing it. This proves Facebook’s strategic success. When users want to use the most active social media platform, they fall into the hands of Facebook again.
Google’s only ‘force’ success on social media: YouTube
Search engine and advertising giant Google does not have a significant initiative in social media. Drawing a new model in video sharing after purchasing YouTube, the company can reach billions of users thanks to its advertising revenue sharing model with content producers. More and more people are creating more content every day.
Although YouTube has become a video-based social media channel, it is still not a channel that most people use to communicate with their close circle. That’s what Google is aiming for. It offers the aim of reaching the whole world, not just a group of people who know or know you. Even the fact that the freedom of people to express themselves as they wish has been distorted in recent years does not change the fact that it is one of the most popular media.
6% of our readers who participated in the survey chose from channels not included in the list. Other channels include Tumblr, Twitch, Pinterest. Although Reddit does not have Turkish language support, it has 4% of the votes. Microsoft’s business network LinkedIn, on the other hand, was able to get only 1% of the votes to become the favourite, despite 7 million Turkish users. This detail leads us to the conclusion that LinkedIn is still perceived as a career center, not a social media platform.
